Corporate Human Resources Director / Cleveland, OH
SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Corporate Director of Human Resources will have responsibility for setting the human resources agenda and strategy for this $175M, privately held distribution company in Cleveland, OH. As a member of the Executive Staff, the role will establish a strong link between corporate goals and relevant human resource programs and solutions.
The responsibilities will be deep and wide so that the challenge will be to build a plan and execute with a persistent focus on a growth basis. The Director of HR must have the ability to synthesize complex and diverse business issues with the intellectual versatility, business acumen and experience to move across disciplines, functions and cultures.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Director of HR partners with the senior management team and is responsible for general human resource management, implementing, directing, and developing growth-enabling platforms for benefits, recruitment, compensation, talent review and succession planning, employee engagement and goal deployment in a union environment.
- Develops organization strategies by identifying and researching human resources issues; contributing information, analysis, and recommendations to organization strategic thinking and direction; establishing human resources objectives in line with organizational objectives.
- Implements human resources strategies by establishing department accountabilities, including labor negotiation strategies, talent acquisition, staffing, employment processing, compensation, health and welfare benefits, training and development, records management, safety and health, succession planning, employee and labor relations and retention, AA/EEO compliance.
- Manages human resources operations by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, coaching, counseling, and disciplining staff; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing staff job contributions; maintaining compensation; determining production, productivity, quality, and customer-service strategies; designing systems; accumulating resources; resolving problems; implementing change.
- Develops human resources operations financial strategies by estimating, forecasting, and anticipating requirements, trends, and variances; aligning monetary resources; developing action plans; measuring and analyzing results; initiating corrective actions; minimizing the impact of variances.
- Accomplishes special project results by identifying and clarifying issues and priorities; communicating and coordinating requirements; expediting fulfillment; evaluating milestone accomplishments; evaluating optional courses of action; changing assumptions and direction.
- Supports management by providing human resources advice, counsel, and decisions; analyzing information and applications.
- Guides management and employee actions by researching, developing, writing, and updating policies, procedures, methods, and guidelines; communicating and enforcing organization values.
- Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in conferences and educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
- Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Strong understanding of business functions including knowledge of balance sheets and understanding P&L
- Candidates must have demonstrated experience in building human resources structure in an unstructured environment
- Strong organizational development/talent management knowledge and experience
- Demonstrated success in developing and implementing core HR practices
- Experience with benefits and healthcare complexities
- Labor relations experience including contract negotiation exposure
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with business functions including knowledge of balance sheets and understanding P&L
- Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business or other related field required with a Masters and/or MBA degreepreferred
- 10+ years of progressive Human Resources experience – distribution knowledge a plus
- Union and contract negotiation exposure required
